On Tuesday our chorus assembled for the last rehearsal before the Christmas break… a festive and very poignant affair as we said thanks, but not quite goodbye, to our accompanist Andrew Black.
The ‘Phil Family’ is exactly that, a group of people from all over Cambridge, from many different walks of life, who meet regularly to rehearse and perform. This strong community is drawn together by their love of music, and for our chorus, the joy of singing.
Andrew has worked with the chorus for over the last 35 years or so, a familiar face, always highly professional, self-effacing and an incredibly accomplished pianist. Very much part of the ‘family’, Andrew’s wife, Helen, is also a member, singing alto.
Sadly, Andrew has retired from his role this year and will be greatly missed by all at the Phil. Yesterday evening we shared many stories, a beautiful thank you speech penned and read by our former Chorus Co-Secretary & long term member, Jane Bower, and a presentation of some gifts… a photo memory collage, signed by our chorus members, flowers, vouchers and an honorary membership to Cambridge Philharmonic, in recognition of Andrew’s huge contribution.
A farewell, of sorts, we are delighted that both Andrew and Helen will continue to sing with the chorus, hopefully for many more years to come! Thank you both for your massive contribution to our wonderful community.
