One of the best-loved double-bills in the operatic repertoire, Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci were never intended as a pair. But the intensity of the emotions, vivid humanity of the librettos, and monumental beauty of the music has brought these two together for ever.
Cavalleria Rusticana (‘Rustic Chivalry’) – best known for the staggering ‘Easter Hymn’ – is a tale of love and betrayal set against the backdrop of a Sicilian village square on Easter Sunday, whilst Pagliacci (‘The Clowns’) sees a similarly troubled love story at the heart of a touring theatre company.
Former Royal Opera House Young Artist Gyula Nagy tackles the twin roles of Tonio/Alfio whilst Welsh National Opera Associate Artist Adam Gilbert sings Canio/Turiddu. Lee Bisset makes her debut as Santuzza alongside Fflur Wyn and Sarah Pring, in this evening of Italian drama not to be missed!
